Typhoon ‘Fongwong’ Intensifies Over the Philippine Sea

Bangkok: Infrared satellite imagery captured Friday showed Typhoon Fung-wong intensifying over the Philippine Sea, as the country braced for the storm after being hit hard by Typhoon Kalmaegi over the past week. Typhoon Phongwong is expected to intensify into a “super typhoon” before making landfall in the northern Philippines on Sunday night (November 9) or early Monday morning (November 10).

According to Thai News Agency, the Hong Kong Observatory issued an advisory on Friday, predicting Typhoon Fongwong will have maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour. The Philippines’ civil aviation regulator has issued the highest alert level for all regional operations centers and airports in preparation.

Typhoon Kalmaegi, the 13th typhoon to form in the South China Sea this year, has killed 188 people, left 135 missing and injured 96 in the Philippines.
