Washington: The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a bill aimed at enhancing online safety for children, a decision that could set the stage for conflicts with the Senate, which favors stricter regulations.
According to Thai News Agency, the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act was passed with bipartisan support, garnering a 267 to 117 vote. The legislation mandates online platforms to implement child safety measures, reflecting Congress's ongoing efforts to address online threats faced by youth in light of criticism directed at social media companies.
The newly approved law requires technology companies to introduce features that enable children to limit addictive screen activities. Additionally, it obligates these companies to establish transparent policies to shield young users from various online threats, including sexual abuse.
