Udon Thani:The Huai Sam Phad reservoir in Udon Thani province is undergoing significant development to increase water reserves and aid local farmers in managing 200 rai of land, offering a sustainable solution to ongoing drought issues.
According to Thai News Agency, the Director-General of the Department of Water Resources, Mr. Teerachun Boonsit, along with his executive team, visited the reservoir site to assess the project's progress in Ban Pa Kham, Village No. 7, Ban Tat Subdistrict, Mueang Udon Thani District. Mr. Phokin Chamket, Director of the Regional Water Resources Office 3 (Udon Thani), provided insights into the project's background, current challenges, and future development plans for the water source and distribution system. Local administrative representatives, leaders, and residents were also present to participate in the monitoring of the project's advancement.
The initiative by the Department of Water Resources, executed through the Regional Water Resources Office 3, aims to address previous issues of siltation that reduced the reservoir's capacity and damage to the spillway from recent heavy rains. These challenges have affected the local population and farmers who depend on the water source. The project seeks to restore and enhance the reservoir's functionality urgently.
Key components of the project include the construction of a solar-powered water distribution system with 20 outlets, designed to support agricultural water use. The project also focuses on upgrading drainage structures to improve water management, reduce energy costs, and increase water delivery efficiency to agricultural lands. This initiative benefits 175 households, enhances water security for agricultural activities, and supports continuous cash crop cultivation, thereby creating employment and boosting local incomes.
This field visit underscores the Department of Water Resources' commitment to improving water resource management for community benefit. The project emphasizes collaboration among government agencies, local organizations, community leaders, and residents to combat drought, secure water resources, and enhance quality of life while promoting sustainable economic growth in the community.
