Uncle-in-law arrested for raping 17-year-old niece in a marathon – Paveena Foundation rushes to help

Chiang Rai, A mother trusted her daughter with her aunt and uncle-in-law. Seven years later, she found out that her daughter had been raped by her 'uncle-in-law' for seven years, starting from the age of eight. Unable to bear it, she called her mother to pick her up. She found that the child was so lethargic that she had to see a psychiatrist every three months. In the end, she turned to the Paveena Foundation for help. Police at Ban Du Police Station arrested Mr. Loi, 55, from Ban Du Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province, after Ms. Lom, 44, filed a complaint via the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women's Facebook page that her 17-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted by Mr. Loi, her uncle-in-law, from the age of 8 to 15. They brought him in for questioning and charged him with raping a girl under thirteen and raping a girl under fifteen. He will be taken to court for detention on July 2, and bail will be opposed. Ms. Pawina Hongsakul, President of the Pawina Foundation, revealed that the victim's mother said that she broke up with her husband and therefore took her daughter to be raised by her older sister and uncle-in-law so that she could study because her ex-husband went to work abroad. She herself worked in Chiang Mai. She just found out that her daughter had been raped by her uncle-in-law for 8 years. Her daughter called her mother to come and pick her up because she didn't want to live with her aunt and uncle-in-law anymore. At first, her daughter didn't tell her much but was lethargic, withdrawn, and didn't talk much. After about 2 months, her daughter told her that her uncle-in-law had raped her all along and told her not to tell anyone. She was afraid that she wouldn't have a place to stay and wouldn't be able to study, so she didn't dare tell anyone. Whenever her mother visited her or called her on the phone, her aunt and uncle-in-law would always be there. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore and called her mother to ask her to come and pick her up. The victim wa s clearly stressed, so her mother had to take her to see a psychiatrist for treatment. She currently has to take medication all the time. The doctor has scheduled her to come and talk to her about her symptoms every 3 months because she is at risk of developing depression. In addition, at the end of May, Mr. Loi also called the victim to threaten her not to press charges and tried to ask where she was, which made the child very scared. The child's mother was worried about her daughter's safety, so she contacted the Paveena Foundation for help and wanted to take Mr. Loi to court. Source: Thai News Agency
