Chaeng wattana: "Uncle Thewa," a 70-year-old former tennis instructor, made headlines after being fined 500 baht for throwing fermented fish sauce at the Election Commission (EC). He cited dissatisfaction with the election organization as the reason for his actions, asserting that no political party or politician influenced him.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Thewa was apprehended by officers from the 191 patrol unit and Thung Song Hong Police Station after throwing the fish sauce at the Government Complex in Chaeng Wattana. He was charged under the Public Cleanliness and Order Act, and the fine was reportedly paid by an anonymous individual. The questioning at the police station lasted over an hour, after which Mr. Thewa had his fingerprints taken.

Mr. Thewa explained that his act was a protest against what he perceived as recurring issues and a lack of transparency within the EC. He mentioned that he had previously warned the commission but saw no improvement. His symbolic use of fermented fish sauce was intended to highlight the perceived "rottenness" of the organization. He emphasized that his actions were independent and not politically motivated.

He also shared that he did not participate in the February 8th election due to indifference to politics and no affiliation with any political party. Concerned about the ongoing border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, Mr. Thewa expressed readiness to protest dishonesty in government agencies in the future.

After the incident, Mr. Thewa had only 60 baht left, having spent 40 baht on the fish sauce. He explained his white outfit and tennis racket, stating they symbolized purity and were for self-defense against dogs. Regarding public criticism, he remarked, "It's up to them," emphasizing his stance against repeated wrongdoings.

Following the fingerprinting process, police officers continued to question Mr. Thewa on political matters.
