Unstable Weather and Flash Flood Warnings Issued for Northern and Southern Thailand

Bangkok:Northern Thailand is currently experiencing unstable weather conditions marked by strong winds and thunderstorms. A warning has also been issued for the southern region, which is at risk of flash floods and landslides.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has announced unstable weather in upper Thailand and heavy to very heavy rainfall in the southern region, effective from November 5-9, 2026. This is outlined in their latest Issue No. 2 (285/2569).

From November 5-7, 2026, the northeastern region of Thailand will be the first to experience thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall. This will be followed by similar weather conditions in the northern and central regions, including Bangkok and its surroundings, as well as the eastern region. The public is advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms and strong winds, avoiding open areas, large trees, and unstable advertising signs.

From November 7-9, 2026, the southern region is expected to experience increased rainfall, with some areas receiving very heavy rain. This could lead to flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas on slopes near waterways and low-lying areas. Residents are urged to remain vigilant regarding the dangers of accumulated rainfall.

These weather patterns are attributed to a high-pressure area or cold air mass from China spreading over northern Thailand and the South China Sea, resulting in stronger easterly winds across Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. Additionally, wave heights in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, especially during thunderstorms, are expected to exceed 2 meters. Sailors in these areas are advised to proceed with caution and avoid navigating in stormy conditions.
