Nonthaburi: Urgent relief efforts are underway following a mass shooting at a prestigious school in Nonthaburi province, with 1 million baht raised to assist the victims. "Paradorn" convened an urgent meeting of the Disaster Relief Fund Committee to expedite compensation for those affected, drawing comparisons to four previous incidents. The assistance includes 1 million baht per deceased victim, 700,000 baht for disabled individuals, 200,000 baht for seriously injured individuals, and 100,000 baht for minor injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Paradorn Prisnanantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, chaired the 5th/2026 meeting of the Disaster Relief Fund Committee. Ms. Yupa Taweewattanakitbaworn, Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, served as a committee member and secretary, alongside heads of government agencies, executives, and representatives from relevant agencies. The meeting was conducted both in person and online via Zoom.
Following the meeting, Mr. Paradorn reported receiving instructions from the Prime Minister regarding the mass shooting incident. Consequently, he informed the Prime Minister's Office to urgently convene a meeting of the Disaster Relief Fund to identify measures to assist those affected.
The meeting reviewed four previous similar incidents: the Terminal 21 shooting in Nakhon Ratchasima, the daycare center shooting in Nong Bua Lamphu, the youth shooting at Siam Paragon in Bangkok, and the shooting at Patong Prathankiriwat School in Songkhla. These were used as benchmarks for determining the financial assistance rate, which was deemed appropriate to match the previous incidents.
For cases involving fatalities, compensation of 1 million baht per person will be provided; for those disabled, 700,000 baht per person; for those seriously injured, 200,000 baht per person; and for those with minor injuries, 100,000 baht per person, to ensure urgent assistance and relief for those affected.
Mr. Paradorn stated that the government expresses its condolences for the incident and will provide assistance to those affected. The Prime Minister has emphasized the Ministry of Interior's policy prohibiting the possession or carrying of firearms in public areas, except by government officials performing their duties. This measure will be strictly enforced. Additionally, the House of Representatives will propose legislation to amend the Firearms Act.
Regarding the approval of aid funds, Mr. Paradorn mentioned that it would be expedited, expected to take a few days. He noted that they would wait for the final figures from those involved to determine the total aid amount. Regarding additional budgets from other agencies, he stated they would check if the Prime Minister's Office has a fund for assisting disaster victims of this nature and expedite the process using the available funds under their supervision.
