Chiang Mai: Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire at Devaspa, Dhara Dhevi Hotel, after finding the source of the fire. The owner said that he did not have fire insurance, making it impossible to burn it down to get the insurance money.
According to Thai News Agency, forensic police have inspected a group of seven wooden buildings belonging to Devaspa in the Dhara Dhevi Hotel area in Chiang Mai, which were burned last night (April 23), particularly the suspected origin of the fire, in the central hall behind the entrance arch. Some evidence has been collected for examination. If no electricity is found, the focus will be on whether the fire was caused by carelessness or intention.
Mr. Suphan Setthaphanich, Chief Executive Officer of Siam Estate Darathevi Co., Ltd., owner of Darathevi, which has been in the Darathevi area for only 2 months, revealed that the damages are likely to be in the hundreds of millions of baht, not including priceless artwork and architecture. He also confirmed that he did not have fire insurance, so it was impossible to burn it to get insurance, and the building has not been used for many years.
It was reported that the area of the Dhara Dhevi Hotel, more than 150 rai, which was auctioned by the Department of Enforcement, was divided into 2 parts: the hotel building and spa, including some villas, which Siam Estate Dhara Dhevi Co., Ltd. and its partners won the auction in 2023, but the other part, including the villas and vacant land, belongs to another company.
