Tehran: The United States and Israel have continued their airstrikes against targets in Iran, escalating military operations in the region.
According to Thai News Agency, the US has also engaged in naval warfare by torpedoing an Iranian warship.
Iranian state media reported a significant airstrike targeting the Borujerdi residential building in eastern Tehran, which occurred near noon local time on Wednesday. The attack resulted in several casualties and prompted the evacuation of residents due to the building's structural instability.
Vantor, a US software company, unveiled satellite images highlighting the extensive damage from the ongoing airstrikes across Iran since the commencement of the US and Israeli operation on February 28. This operation resulted in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and over 40 high-ranking Iranian officials.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has released images depicting missile attacks on Iranian military vehicles and equipment as part of Operation Epic Fury. Concurrently, the U.S. Department of Defense shared video footage of missile launches from the guided-missile destroyer USS Bainbridge, alongside images of U.S. fighter jets launching from the aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford. These visuals underscore the U.S. forces' ongoing operations targeting Iran. The Israeli military provided images of its air force fighter jets en route to Iran but withheld further specifics.
In a related development, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hexeth confirmed that a U.S. submarine had torpedoed and sunk the Iranian warship IRIS Dena off the southern coast of Sri Lanka. This event marks a historical moment, as it is the first time since World War II that an American submarine has used a torpedo to sink an enemy vessel. The Sri Lankan navy responded to a distress signal on Wednesday morning, rescuing 32 crew members and recovering 87 deceased individuals. Approximately 60 people remain unaccounted for. The ship was returning from India after participating in a naval parade, highlighting the U.S.'s capability to target the Iranian navy globally. To date, the U.S. military has destroyed more than 20 Iranian warships.
In retaliation, Iran has launched hundreds of missiles and deployed over 1,000 drone strikes against Israel and U.S.-allied countries in the Gulf since the commencement of hostilities on February 28. Iraqi civil defense officials reported the downing of a drone that subsequently crashed into a residential building near Erbil airport. Although the building and nearby vehicles sustained damage, no injuries were reported.
On the same day, the UK Maritime Enforcement Agency reported a powerful explosion on an oil tanker anchored off Kuwait's coast. The incident caused an oil spill and water ingress into the vessel, though no fire ensued, and all crew members remained unscathed.
