Vajiralongkorn Dam Increases Water Discharge Amid Heavy Rainfall

Kanchanaburi:Vajiralongkorn Dam has commenced releasing increased volumes of water, prompting warnings for residents downstream to move belongings to higher ground.

According to Thai News Agency, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) announced that the dam began releasing water today following a resolution by the Working Group on Weather Analysis and Water Situation Forecasting. This decision was made to handle the increased water inflow into the reservoir.

The water discharge rate will initially be increased from 15 to 30 million cubic meters per day starting September 29, 2026. From September 30th to October 4th, the rate will rise further, reaching 42 million cubic meters per day. This adjustment is necessary due to heavy and continuous rainfall in Kanchanaburi Province, which has caused the reservoir's water volume to reach 8,484 million cubic meters, or 96% of its capacity, as of 700 PM yesterday.

Water release operations are being conducted in line with Vajiralongkorn Dam's management guidelines. EGAT is closely monitoring the situation, including weather conditions, and will keep the public informed. Residents downstream are advised to stay alert to the water situation, take precautionary measures, and exercise caution in high-risk areas.
