Varawut Advocates for Green Policies to Boost Economy and Preserve Environment

Bangkok: Varawut Silpa-archa, a candidate for Member of Parliament from the Bhumjaithai Party, is championing environmental policies that aim to integrate conservation with national development for the benefit of future generations. His initiatives focus on solar rooftops and a "Green Economy Plus," which he believes will generate income, reduce expenses, and increase disposable income for the population.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Varawut, who served as the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment in 2019, has always been passionate about nature and has sought ways to alleviate financial burdens while boosting earnings for citizens. The solar rooftop initiative, for instance, enables individuals to generate their own electricity, leading to reduced electricity costs. The "Green Economy Plus" policy encourages environmentally friendly businesses, which, although potentially challenging in the short term, promises to be a significant economic driver in the long run, enhancing people's incomes. The Bhumjaithai Party emphasizes supporting farmers to ensure self-sufficiency rather than relying on government handouts.

Mr. Varawut highlighted the necessity of a policy shift addressing environmental issues, which requires lifestyle changes and a focus on conservation alongside national development. Priorities include improving water and air quality, tackling PM2.5 pollution, and reducing marine debris. He emphasized the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations, stating that conservation must accompany development. Mr. Varawut urged that thinking about future generations should be a collective responsibility of all Thai citizens.
