Varawut Silpa-archa Accelerates Measures to Tackle Tha Chin River Flooding

Manila:The Minister of Industry has initiated urgent measures to address the water management challenges in the Tha Chin River basin. In a recent meeting, directives were issued to install water pumps swiftly, reinforce dikes, and conduct a rapid assessment of flood damages with a view to processing compensation payments efficiently. Additionally, a comprehensive cleanup plan is being developed.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, who serves as both the Minister of Industry and Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Flood and Drought Prevention and Mitigation in the Tha Chin River Basin, emphasized the need for effective and comprehensive strategies to mitigate flooding impacts on the public. He instructed the relevant units to expedite water drainage operations, reinforce dikes, and install water pumps along the Tha Chin River, with particular attention to economic zones, urban areas, and hospitals.

The Royal Irrigation Department has been directed to manage water intake carefully through the Pholthep sluice gate, considering the declining water levels in the Chao Phraya River Basin, and to control water discharge to prevent overflow in the provinces of Chai Nat, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, and Samut Sakhon. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation will serve as the central hub for information integration and communication during heavy rainfall, ensuring the dissemination of clear and accurate information to prevent misinformation.

Post-flood recovery efforts will focus on a thorough damage assessment and prompt compensation for affected individuals, coupled with a major cleanup initiative in public areas. These operations will rely on close collaboration and integration among all involved agencies.
