Bangkok: In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) plays a significant role in our daily lives, many people may unknowingly or intentionally send various types of data to AI for processing, whether for work or entertainment. But did you know that there is certain data you should absolutely never send to AI?
According to Thai News Agency, the "Verify Before Sharing" center interviewed Police Colonel Natkrit Phromchan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Personal Data Protection Commission, to address concerns about the potential risks of sharing sensitive personal data with AI systems.
The mechanism of AI is to process the data we provide, and what it returns are characteristics that identify us. If the AI platform is hacked, data is leaked, or user accounts are stolen, criminals can use this identifying information for illicit purposes or to commit various crimes.
Police Colonel Natkrit elaborated on ten specific types of data that should never be shared with AI. These include National ID card and passport information, which serve as "identity keys" and could be exploited if leaked. Pay slips or income information could make individuals targets for scammers, while bank account details, passwords, and OTPs pose significant risks of financial fraud.
Moreover, sharing customer personal data without consent violates the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and can lead to legal repercussions. Business documents and internal company systems are also at risk of being compromised, potentially leading to competitive disadvantages and breaches of confidentiality.
Biometric data, such as palm prints, fingerprints, face, iris, and voice, are emphasized as extremely sensitive since they form irreversible identity markers. Similarly, sharing daily routine information, like photos of your house or location data, exposes individuals to potential tracking and deception.
Police Colonel Natkrit advised that while AI offers numerous benefits, users must exercise caution. Utilizing features like Temporary Chat to prevent data collection or training usage helps mitigate risks. Ultimately, he emphasized, "Do not send any personal information to AI at all" to secure your identity and assets.
This information serves as a crucial warning, highlighting the need for individuals to evaluate their own risk tolerance when interacting with AI technologies.
