Vietnam sentences South Korean drug convict to death

Hanoi, Vietnamese official media reported that Vietnam has sentenced 18 drug traffickers to death, including two South Koreans.

Vietnam's official Gong An Nsen news website Reported on Saturday evening that A 63-year-old South Korean former police officer, a 30-year-old South Korean, a 58-year-old Chinese national, a 36-year-old Vietnamese gang leader and 14 other suspects were sentenced to death. After the Family and Juvenile Court under the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court considered the case for 4 days.

This group of suspects illegally stored and traded drugs with a total weight of more than 216 kilograms between May and June 2020, of which more than 168 kilograms were seized. They were accused of smuggling drugs from Cambodia into Ho Chi Minh City. Some parts are sold within the country. The rest was transported to South Korea. Authorities searched a container truck that was passing through customs in Ho Chi Minh City en route to South Korea on July 19 and found 40 plastic wraps containing methamphetamine, with a total weight of 39.5. kg

Vietnamese police said Ho Chi Minh City has become a center for drug trafficking gangs. This is because the transportation infrastructure has greatly improved. Possession of more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine is punishable by death.
