Vietnamese Print Media Faces Declining Readership but Adapts to Online Platforms

Hanoi:Vietnamese print media are experiencing a decline in readership but remain dedicated to adapting to online platforms to maintain their credibility as mainstream media outlets.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Le Trong Minh, Deputy Managing Editor, along with executives from a Vietnamese financial and investment newspaper group, met in Hanoi with a delegation from the Thai Journalists Association. This delegation was led by Ms. Rinee Ruangnoo, President of the Association, and Mr. Chavarong Limpattampanee, President of the National Press Council and advisor to the Association.

During the meeting, Mr. Le Trong Minh shared that in 2025, the Vietnamese government restructured its public sector, reducing the number of ministries and agencies. This led to the merger of the Ministry of Planning and Investment with the Ministry of Finance, resulting in the consolidation of affiliated publications. The group now includes five newspapers, daily and weekly, in both Vietnamese and English. Vietnam Investment Review, a part of this group, provides detailed coverage of investment, finance, stock markets, and government procurement, and is considered a leading publication in Vietnam's economic sectors.

Mr. Le Trong Minh also noted that although the media group is under the Ministry of Finance, it operates independently in terms of revenue, relying on advertising from businesses, including multinational corporations like SCG and Thai Beverage. These companies aim to connect with government agencies and consumers in Vietnam through their advertisements.

The Vietnamese media landscape is currently facing challenges with a decline in print readership, a trend seen globally. To combat this, the newspaper group has developed online platforms and established social media teams, ensuring they continue to provide accurate, reliable information on policies, laws, and economic trends.

Furthermore, Mr. Le Trong Minh emphasized the significance of Thai investors in Vietnam and the ongoing expansion of Vietnamese businesses into Thailand. He highlighted the media's role as a bridge for providing in-depth information on regulations and investment climates in both countries, viewing the meeting as a valuable opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations and economic development.
