Visa-Free Policy Spurs Over 12 Percent Rise in Foreign Visitors to China

Beijing: Visa-free travel has driven cross-border travel into China, with a more than 12 percent increase in foreign visitors. Visa-free travel boosted cross-border travel to China during the Labor Day holiday, exceeding 11 million trips.

According to Thai News Agency, Xinhua News Agency reported on Wednesday (May 6) that the Immigration Administration of China recorded nearly 11.3 million cross-border trips during this year's Labor Day holiday. This surge was largely attributed to an influx of foreign visitors, many of whom entered the country under the visa-free policy.

The data reveals that the volume of cross-border travel in China during the five-day Labor Day holiday, which spanned from May 1 to May 5, averaged approximately 2.26 million trips per day. This marks a 3.5 percent increase compared to the previous year, with the peak of travel observed on May 2.

Furthermore, the number of foreign visitors entering and leaving China during this period reached 1.26 million, registering a 12.5% increase from the previous year. Notably, 436,000 of these entries were under the visa-free policy, reflecting a 14.7% year-on-year increase.
