Suai padi: An assailant ambushed and shot a volunteer defense corps member in Suai Padi district in broad daylight, injuring him. Unidentified assailants ambushed and seriously wounded a security detail protecting a subdistrict in Suai Padi. Security forces have cordoned off the area and are searching for clues to apprehend the perpetrators. Meanwhile, the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command is urging the public to report any information via the 24-hour hotline 1341.
According to Thai News Agency, the attack occurred at approximately 1:00 PM on June 4, 2026, on the Paluru-Suai Padi road, in Moo 3, Paluru Subdistrict, Suai Padi District, Narathiwat Province. Initial investigations revealed the injured person to be Volunteer Defense Corps member Uruphong Kamol, 35 years old, who sustained a gunshot wound to the torso from an unknown type and caliber of firearm. At the scene, a red and black motorcycle was found overturned on the roadside shoulder, and the injured man was found lying in the roadside bushes awaiting assistance. Following the incident, good Samaritans and officials helped transport the injured man to an emergency ambulance and rushed him to Suai Padi Hospital. Currently, the injured man remains conscious and is under close medical supervision.
Upon receiving the report, Acting Police Colonel Tarmeesi Chedee, Superintendent of Suai Padi Police Station, ordered police officers, along with security forces, military personnel, and local administrative officials, to immediately secure the scene. They also deployed forces to cordon off the area and investigate routes believed to have been used by the perpetrators. In addition, coordination was established with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and forensic officers from Narathiwat Province to conduct a thorough investigation at the scene in order to collect forensic evidence and interview witnesses in order to quickly identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward (ISOC Region 4 Forward) has issued a statement condemning the act and requesting cooperation from the public in the area.
