Warning for Upper Thailand to Brace for Summer Storms, Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department warns the upper part of Thailand to brace for “summer storms” with heavy rain, strong winds, and hail. The southern region will see more rain and heavy rain in some areas.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department reported that the upper part of Thailand will experience a summer storm, which will be characterized by thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind, hail, and heavy rain in some areas, including lightning that may occur in some areas. This is because a moderate high-pressure area from China has spread down to cover Vietnam and the South China Sea, causing southeasterly and southern winds to bring moisture from the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea to cover the upper part of Thailand. Meanwhile, the upper part of Thailand will still be hot in some areas in the North and Central regions. People in these areas should be careful of the dangers of the summer storm, and should avoid traveling through areas with thunderstorms. They should not be in open areas, under large trees, structures, and billboards that are not strong. Farmers should strengthen their fruit trees and prepare to prevent possible damage to agricultural products and livestock.

For the South, there will be more rain and some areas will have heavy rain. People in the South should be careful of the dangers of heavy rain and accumulated rain, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff, especially in areas on hillsides near waterways and lowlands. This is because the westerly and southwesterly winds covering the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf of Thailand are getting stronger. The waves in the Andaman Sea are moderate with waves 1-2 meters high. In areas with thunderstorms, the waves are higher than 2 meters. Sailors in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should sail with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.

Weather conditions affecting dust accumulation during this period: Dust/smog accumulation in the upper part of Thailand is low to moderate and tends to remain stable due to the south and southwest winds covering the area.
