Warning of Heavy Rain in 16 Thai Provinces as Tropical Depression Bualoi Weakens

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rain across 16 provinces in Thailand, highlighting potential threats of flash floods and mudslides. Tropical Depression “Bualoi” has weakened into a low-pressure area and is anticipated to move along the monsoon trough across northern Myanmar and the upper North.

According to Thai News Agency, the 24-hour weather forecast for Thailand indicates heavy rain in various areas, particularly in the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Ranong, and Phang Nga. Residents in these regions are urged to remain cautious as the heavy and accumulated rain could lead to flash floods, forest runoff, and river overflows, especially in hillside areas near waterways, lowlands, and already flooded regions. This situation is attributed to a strong monsoon trough over upper Myanmar and the upper North, combined with a robust southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The maritime conditions are also affected, with waves in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand being relatively strong, reaching heights of 2-3 meters, and exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm regions, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are recommended to stay ashore until September 30, 2025.

Additionally, Tropical Depression “Bualoi” has weakened into a strong low-pressure area over Luang Namtha Province, Laos, and is expected to progress along the monsoon trough through northern Myanmar and the upper North by September 30, 2025.

The regional weather forecast for September 30, 2025, includes thunderstorms and heavy rain across several regions in Thailand, with the Northern and Northeastern regions expecting thunderstorms in 80% of the area and Southern regions experiencing thunderstorms in 60-70% of the area. Mariners and residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as weather conditions continue to evolve.
