Bangkok: Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, former MP and deputy leader of the People's Party, has addressed current Members of Parliament, urging them not to lose sight of their ideals amidst ongoing legal challenges.
According to Thai News Agency, Wiroj expressed his concerns on his personal Facebook page, emphasizing that MPs should not be deterred from their duties by the fear of disqualification or legal repercussions.
Wiroj, who is among the 44 MPs facing legal scrutiny, stated his detachment from personal gain associated with being an MP. He highlighted that his primary satisfaction in the role was representing the people and advancing the party's ideology to address societal issues. He assured his commitment to fighting the legal cases to the end, asserting his belief in his innocence and the importance of public understanding of the legal arguments involved.
Wiroj's main concern lies in the possibility of current MPs abandoning the ideology they were elected to uphold. He cautioned that fear of legal consequences could lead MPs to deviate from their path, potentially rendering the party obsolete in the eyes of the electorate. Wiroj encouraged MPs to work in tandem with community networks, focusing on substantial issue-based agendas both inside and outside parliament.
He criticized superficial displays of activity, such as social media posts, and urged MPs to genuinely engage in legislative efforts that address public issues. Wiroj reflected on his own experience as a new MP, stressing the importance of contributing to the "ideological jar" filled by past generations to ensure its sustainability for future leaders.
In closing, Wiroj expressed his hope that current MPs will wisely utilize this ideological resource and continue to replenish it, thus perpetuating the party's ideals. He offered his unwavering encouragement and support to his colleagues in their ongoing efforts.
