Wirote Maintains Secrecy on People’s Party Prime Ministerial Candidate

Bangkok: Wirote Lakkhanaadisorn, Deputy Leader and party-list MP of the People’s Party, has opted to keep the name of the party’s prime ministerial candidate under wraps, urging the public to wait until tomorrow for the official announcement. He expressed confidence that the party will select a knowledgeable and capable leader to steer the country forward, and he pledged his full commitment to support the chosen candidate.

According to Thai News Agency, Wirote addressed speculation surrounding the party’s candidate announcement scheduled for November 23rd. He was questioned whether the potential candidates, aside from party leader Natthaphong Ruangpanyawut, included Sirikanya Tansakul and Wirayut Kanchanachuchat, a core leader of the party. He maintained that the public should wait for the official announcement, emphasizing the importance of the party’s flagship policy, which aims to combat scammers and grey capital. Wirote assured that all pertinent information would be disclosed tomorrow and declined to comment on whether the previously speculated names would be part of the list. He confirmed that the selected candidates would be well-qualified.

When asked about the possible impact of 44 MP cases pending with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on the party’s candidate, Wirote asserted that the party acted honestly in submitting a proposal to amend Section 112 of the Criminal Code. He stated, “We informed the NACC that we acted honestly and used proper legislation, and therefore have no concerns about this matter.”

Further inquiries about the possibility of external candidates being included were met with a smile from Wirote, who reiterated his stance to wait for the announcement. He explained that revealing any information now could lead to accusations of either prior knowledge or dishonesty. He noted that even some MPs might not yet be aware of the candidate, but affirmed the completion of the party’s selection process.

When questioned about his role as a party leader, Wirote responded, “The leaders don’t know everything. Whether they know or not, I’m 100 percent confident in the party. They’ll definitely select the right people, the knowledgeable and capable people to govern the country. Whether it’s two or three names, or any of them, they’re all suitable. I support them, encourage them, and am ready to work with all my heart.”
