Bangkok: Worachai Hema, a former Pheu Thai Party MP for Samut Prakan, expressed confusion over the tax demands made on former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, relating to the revenue from share sales. According to Worachai, a total of 46 billion baht from these sales has already been seized, but an additional 17 billion baht is still being sought for taxes. To demonstrate his support for Thaksin, Worachai extended an invitation to dine in front of the prison.
According to Thai News Agency, Worachai commented on the Supreme Court’s directive for the Revenue Department to collect the 17 billion baht tax from Thaksin. He highlighted that the issue has persisted for nearly two decades, expressing his bewilderment over the situation. Worachai raised concerns about the whereabouts of the previously seized 46 billion baht, questioning whose pockets it ended up in. He remarked on the peculiar nature of taxing stock sales, which are typically not subject to taxes like other transactions.
Worachai also mentioned the asset seizure from former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra by the NCPO in connection with the rice-pledging scheme, pointing out that no other Thai prime minister has faced such actions. He described these events as an ongoing injustice. Consequently, Worachai called upon citizens who value justice and democracy to gather in front of Krong Prem Prison at noon on Saturday to show their support for Thaksin and demand justice. He emphasized that this injustice has persisted for over 18 years.
