Yaowapha Visits Incarcerated Thaksin and Participates in Musical Show at Min Buri

Bangkok: “Yaowapha” Wongsawat recently visited her brother, “Thaksin” Shinawatra, at Min Buri Special Prison, where he is incarcerated. During her visit, she witnessed a unique event where inmates showcased their musical talents. Thaksin, who is serving his sentence at the prison, participated in the performance by singing Sek Loso’s song “Jai Sang Ma.”

According to Thai News Agency, the event featured a team of musicians from Min Buri Special Prison, all of whom are inmates with a knack for singing and playing music. Sek Loso, a member of the Min Buri band, joined the musical performance, inviting Thaksin to sing on stage. This visit marked Thaksin’s 22nd since his incarceration began on September 9th. His sister, Yaowapha Wongsawat, arrived alone to spend approximately 20 minutes with him.

Following her visit, Yaowapha shared with the media that she learned from prison guards about Thaksin’s musical performance. Thaksin reportedly sang three songs at the request of an inmate in the audience. Yaowapha expressed relief about his well-being but had not inquired whether he performed with Sek Loso. She emphasized the importance of Thaksin taking care of his health during his time in prison.

Addressing the political future of her son, Prof. Dr. Yotsanan Wongsawat, Yaowapha stated that his potential candidacy as a Pheu Thai Party’s prime ministerial candidate would depend on the party and her son’s own decision, as he is independent in his choices. She also mentioned her retirement and limited contact with the party, focusing instead on her brother’s welfare.

In a related initiative, the “Creating Positive Energy Behind the Walls with the Power of Music” project took place at Klong Prem Central Prison, aiming to provide welfare, reduce anxiety, and foster good mental health among inmates. The program encourages inmates to use their free time productively and promotes adherence to prison discipline. As part of this initiative, musical performances by talented inmates were organized. Additionally, Klong Prem Central Prison is set to hold the “Klong Prem Games” sports competition during the upcoming New Year’s festival to enhance the physical and mental health of inmates.
