Bangkok: Amidst the lively atmosphere of the Democrat Party's rally at Silom Park, a small but powerful story emerged that impressed those who witnessed it. Mr. Sakda Khanongpraiwan, a young man of Karen ethnicity from Tak province, decided to ride his motorcycle across provincial borders to show his support for his favorite politician, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sakda revealed the beginning of his admiration for the Democrat Party, stating that he had followed the work of Mr. Chuan Leekpai and Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva since his first year of high school. He added that the policy that truly changed his family's life was the "farmer income guarantee scheme."
'My family in Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province, is a corn farmer. Our family has truly benefited from this policy; it's tangible assistance that has improved our lives,' Sakda said, adding that basic policies like school milk and lunch programs, and student loan programs have always benefited his siblings. This made him feel the genuine commitment of the Democrat Party and Mr. Abhisit to working for the people.
Upon hearing about the speech via Mr. Abhisit's Facebook page, Mr. Sakda didn't hesitate to travel to meet him. After work at 1:00 PM, he hopped on his trusty motorcycle from Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, braving the scorching sun and traffic for over 113 kilometers, heading towards Bangkok. He arrived at the rally venue at 3:00 PM, hoping to secure a front-row spot to meet his political role model.
When asked about his feelings on seeing Mr. Abhisit return to a significant role, Mr. Sakda admitted that he felt excited, happy, and very hopeful. He emphasized that what keeps his faith unwavering is Mr. Abhisit's sincerity.
Mr. Sakda said, "I feel that you are a politician who is sincere with the people. Your policies truly benefit the Thai people. I didn't just come to listen to the speech, but I wanted to give encouragement to Prime Minister Abhisit, my favorite politician since I was in high school. He is a politician of integrity and honesty. I want you to have the strength to continue fighting for us."
Sakda's story proves that no matter how far the distance or how political landscape changes, "integrity" and "tangible results" will remain in the hearts of the people and become an undying driving force.
