Bangkok: Yutthaporn Isarachai, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Science, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, has provided a detailed analysis of the upcoming election landscape, which he describes as a new three-way political battle. This competition centers around the parties' readiness to govern, focusing on prime ministerial candidates, their respective teams, and the nation's long-term political stability.
According to Thai News Agency, Associate Professor Yutthaporn emphasized that the Bhumjaithai Party holds the strongest position going into the election. The party, which has solidified its status within the government coalition, is not only banking on popularity but also on a robust track record and network. Their prime ministerial candidate, Anutin Charnvirakul, is viewed as a competent national leader who comprehends the bureaucratic system and is seen as a stabilizing force in politics, especially concerning national security.
Bhumjaithai has further enhanced its standing by nominating Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, the former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as an additional prime ministerial candidate, which elevates the party's image from domestic politics to the global stage. This decision is seen as strategic, enhancing the party's international credibility.
Associate Professor Yutthaporn also noted that Bhumjaithai's real strength is its integration of influential political families with a new generation of economic and foreign affairs experts. This blend provides the party with a strong local foundation and international investor confidence, a vital asset in today's volatile global economy.
Meanwhile, the Pheu Thai Party is undergoing a significant image transformation following its leadership transition, aiming to maintain its traditional political base while projecting a professional image through its candidate, Yotsanu Wongsawat. However, challenges remain in ensuring political stability and gaining middle-class and business sector confidence to avoid past conflicts. The People's Party, deriving ideology from the Move Forward Party, has a distinct ideological strategy but faces hurdles in widening its appeal beyond urban areas and ensuring governance stability.
Yutthaporn concluded that if the election is assessed on continuity, stability, and governance readiness, Bhumjaithai Party is poised to have the upper hand due to its achievements and coherent team approach. However, the People's Party, although underestimated, presents formidable competition. Pheu Thai, while in a rebuilding phase, retains a strong support base and influential factions, but may ultimately play a pivotal swing role in this electoral contest.
