64-year-old man arrested for deceiving 12-year-old girl via Facebook – police conduct intensive investigation

Oct 22 – A 12-year-old girl who had been missing from her home in Takua Pa District for 17 days has been found after being abducted by an elderly man and taken to a workers’ camp in Phuket Province. Police are taking her in for intensive questioning.

After social media in Phang Nga and Phuket announced the search for 12-year-old Ms. Sompoi (assumed name) who disappeared from her home in Tambon Bang Muang, Amphoe Takua Pa, Phang Nga Province on October 5, her family filed a complaint at Takua Pa Police Station, Phang Nga Province.

Yesterday (21 Oct) at approximately 4:00 PM, Takua Pa Police Station, together with Phuket Police, arrested a man approximately 64 years old who kidnapped Miss Sompoi (assumed name) and took her to a construction worker’s residence in Tambon Kamala, Amphoe Kathu, Phuket Province for 17 days. Previously, Takua Pa Police Station had investigated until they found out where Miss Sompoi (assumed name) was, so they went to arrest the 64 year old man and rescue the child.

The police then
took the 64-year-old man for questioning at Takua Pa Police Station. The 64-year-old man had an indifferent expression and did not say anything. The officers therefore immediately took him in for questioning. As for the 12-year-old girl, they notified the Phuket Social Security Office, who took her to Patong Hospital for a physical examination and placed her in the care of the Phuket Social Security Office.

The 64-year-old man confessed to contacting the girl on Facebook before arranging to pick her up at her house in Takua Pa and driving her to a worker’s house in Phuket. An examination of the suspect’s phone revealed numerous other child pornographic images.

The initial investigation found that there had been child abuse. The police therefore pressed charges of abducting a child under the age of 14 from their parents or guardians. If the results of the physical examination are official, the police will press charges of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14. – Thai News Agency
