Abhisit and Sakoltee Intensify Campaign Efforts at Ying Charoen Market Amid Vote Buying Allegations

Bangkok: Abhisit Vejjajiva and Sakoltee Chuenchom campaigned at Ying Charoen Market to support the candidate for Bangkok's District 9 parliamentary seat. They noted the need to work harder and visit the area more frequently after falling behind in the election, and also mentioned plans to reinforce campaigning in the South due to widespread allegations of vote buying.

According to Thai News Agency, on January 31, 2026, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, the party leader, and Mr. Sakoltee Phatthiyakul, the deputy party leader responsible for Bangkok, campaigned in Constituency 9, covering Bang Khen District (excluding Tha Raeng Subdistrict), Chatuchak District (specifically Chan Kasem and Senanikom Subdistricts), and Lak Si District (specifically Talat Bang Khen Subdistrict), supporting candidate Ms. Vivian Chulamon at Ying Charoen Market.

The atmosphere was lively, with vendors and members of the public eager to take photos and shake hands with Mr. Abhisit. Many people offered words of encouragement, saying things like, "We'll definitely vote for you," "Definitely vote for you, please take care of the elderly." At one point, Mr. Abhisit posed for a photo with a young Liverpool fan, jokingly asking, "Are you up for it tonight at 3 AM?... Don't be angry with me."

Mr. Abhisit spoke about the overall picture in the final stages of the election campaign, stating that in the next 2-3 days he will be visiting the South to emphasize to the people there that this time they must fight together for honest politics, as there have been many reports of vote buying. After that, he will spend time in Bangkok, trying to increase his visits to various areas and present issues that he believes will be beneficial to the public's decision-making in this election.

Regarding his view on the recent release of videos alleging vote buying, Mr. Abhisit said that most of them are old clips. However, he noted that it shows the existence of such behavior, whether old or new, and expressed surprise that the Election Commission (EC) has been unable to take action. He urged the EC to be more proactive, suggesting that arrests or action taken in just one or two locations would significantly deter such incidents from happening again.

Regarding the overall situation in Bangkok, Abhisit said that after visiting two districts this morning, the response was very positive, but he admitted that he has to work hard because he is at a disadvantage.

While a field visit to Nong Chok this morning revealed PM 2.5 dust particles originating from the burning of agricultural waste in Nakhon Nayok province, Mr. Abhisit stated that he wanted the government to take serious action in the areas under surveillance, using mechanisms to address the problem, as air pollution levels have been very high in recent days. Regarding the party's policy, if burning is found in any area, the government will not purchase or support the produce. However, he acknowledged that ultimately, it depends on the enforcement of policies and laws. He urged the local administration and those responsible to take decisive action.
