Amin Orders Urgent Water Drainage Measures in Response to Heavy Flooding in Narathiwat Province

Narathiwat: Deputy Minister Amin has directed the Royal Irrigation Department to expedite water drainage operations in Narathiwat Province following severe flooding caused by intense rainfall, which peaked at nearly 400 mm in 24 hours on November 23. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is actively monitoring the flood situation in the southern border provinces to ensure swift assistance to affected communities.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Amin Mayuso has instructed the Royal Irrigation Department to enhance water drainage capabilities in the region. Additional water pumps have been installed to facilitate the rapid removal of floodwaters to the sea, aiming to alleviate the hardships faced by the local population. This directive aligns with orders from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Colonel Thammanat Prompao, who has mandated all relevant agencies to be fully prepared for the monsoon season’s impact on the three southern border provinces. As a result, areas like Su-ngai Kolok District have managed to control water levels more effectively, leading to quicker recession of floodwaters compared to other regions.

In addition, agencies under the Ministry are conducting surveys of the affected agricultural lands to formulate assistance plans for farmers. These plans include compensation payments in line with government policies and support for occupational rehabilitation once the flood situation improves.
