Anutin Charnvirakul Dismisses Claims of AI-Generated Photo with Ben Smith

Bangkok: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has refuted claims that a photo of him dining with Ben Smith was created using artificial intelligence. In an interview, Anutin, who also serves as the leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, addressed the circulating image during the election campaign, asserting that the photo was taken in 2005. He further clarified that he did not know Ben Smith at the time the photo was taken.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin explained that the photo, which has been questioned for its authenticity, was indeed from 2005, corresponding with the Thai calendar. During that period, Anutin likely served as Deputy Minister of Public Health or Commerce under the government of Thaksin Shinawatra. He stated that he only met Smith in person much later and highlighted that he is unsure of the intentions behind the image, as he does not recognize any of the individuals seated beside him.

Anutin expressed that even if the photo dates back 20-30 years, he does not consider it a mistake or illegal. He emphasized the challenges public figures face during campaigns, noting the impossibility of refusing photographs with the public. Anutin underscored the significance of intent and assured that he has not conducted any transactions with individuals associated with potentially illegal activities.
