Bangkok: Foreign tourists are advised that alcohol will not be sold to them starting this evening as Thailand gears up for its national general election and referendum. The Royal Thai Police has announced a 24-hour prohibition on the sale of alcoholic beverages, effective from 6:00 PM on February 7, 2026, until 6:00 PM on February 8, 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, Police Major General Chaturaphat Phiromkaew, Commander of the Foreign Affairs Division and Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, stated that the measure is part of a broader initiative to ensure smooth preparations for the election. Over 126,000 police officers have been mobilized to provide security across nearly 100,000 polling stations nationwide, ensuring order and safety during the electoral process.

The Election Security and Order Command Center of the Royal Thai Police (ESAC) has been operational since January 13, 2026, with the mission of maintaining public safety and order throughout the election. Police efforts are focused on monitoring and suppressing illegal activities, particularly vote buying, and ensuring the secure and transparent transportation of ballot boxes.

The Royal Thai Police has also emphasized the importance of voter and election official safety, with enhanced security measures in place across all regions. Traffic police have been deployed to facilitate smooth travel, enabling citizens to reach polling stations efficiently.
