Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has declared that all individuals involved in the corruption scandal surrounding local government exams will face prosecution. During a statement delivered at Military Air Base 2, Wing 6, he emphasized that no one will be spared in the investigation, subtly questioning Deputy Governor Sembe by asking, 'Has this matter reached me?'
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin's comments came in response to concerns raised by the opposition, who attempted to link the scandal to his previous tenure as Minister of Interior. He assured the public that the investigation is being conducted with integrity, with orders already issued to probe those implicated. Anutin highlighted that the fact-finding and legal review committee has been working swiftly, ensuring that suspected individuals have been prosecuted and removed from their positions.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the investigation, involving independent bodies like the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and police, is beyond government interference. He stressed that evidence would guide the prosecution process and reassured that innocent individuals would not be falsely accused. Anutin urged the public not to fall for rumors or analyses intended to generate unrest, affirming that the investigation's scope is not predetermined and will follow legal procedures.
Addressing the opposition's attempts to connect him to the scandal, Anutin explained his decision to cancel the 2023 exams to maintain transparency. He acknowledged the opposition's role in scrutinizing the government but expressed confidence that there would be no evidence implicating him. He welcomed factual evidence-backed complaints and cautioned against baseless accusations.
Towards the end of his address, Anutin humorously interacted with the media, asking if they intended to interview Mr. Nirat Pongsitthaworn, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. He confirmed with Mr. Nirat that no exemptions were granted in the investigation, jokingly inquiring if he himself was exempted. Mr. Nirat confirmed that there were no exemptions, prompting laughter from Anutin before he departed.
