Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, faced questions regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the SEA Games, which Thailand is set to host. When confronted with criticism about the organization of the games, particularly in comparison to Cambodia, Anutin deferred the query to Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, asking rhetorically, “Who said that?” He acknowledged the budget delays and stated that he had instructed Colonel Thammanat Prompao to expedite the resolution of numerous issues, noting that the situation was in turmoil.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin addressed the criticisms head-on, noting that while the official opening ceremony is scheduled for December 9th, he had already taken measures to address the budget concerns that had not only emerged recently but had been ongoing. Anutin stated that since assuming his role, he has worked diligently to expedite the matter, emphasizing that the issues were recognized and that he had entrusted Colonel Thammanat with resolving them.
When questioned about the decision to use AI in creating event posters, Anutin relayed that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Colonel Thammanat, assured that the process was fully implemented, further stating that the SEA Games would proceed as planned. He also mentioned that challenges in his jurisdiction, such as Hat Yai in Songkhla Province being unable to host, necessitated swift arrangements for competition venues and athlete accommodations.
Regarding the need for KPI measurements for ministers, Anutin commented on the impracticality of implementing such metrics in the limited time available before the games. Additionally, he addressed speculation about potential political instability, affirming that any decision to dissolve Parliament would not occur later than January 31, 2026.
