Anutin Engages with Indian Ambassador to Address Repatriation of Scam Victims

Mae sot: Government Spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat revealed that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul arrived in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, to oversee the deportation of illegal immigrants. On this occasion, the Prime Minister held discussions with Mr. Nagesh Singh, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Thailand. Mr. Akara Prompow, Minister of Social Development and Human Security; Ms. Traisulee Traisaranakul, Secretary-General to the Prime Minister; Mr. Vijavat Isaraphakdi, Assistant Minister to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Arsit Sampantharat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior; and Police General Kittirat Phanpetch, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister and the Indian Ambassador welcomed the exchange of information and views on addressing online and transnational crimes. The Prime Minister emphasized that the government prioritizes combating online crimes, making it a “national agenda” and is committed to continuously assisting in the repatriation of foreign nationals, including Indians, from scam centers in Myanmar. He thanked India for its timely cooperation in arranging special flights to repatriate Indians.

The Indian Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister, the Thai government, and relevant agencies, including security, military, police, administrative officials, the Ministry of Interior, Tak Province, the Immigration Bureau, and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, for their assistance in helping Indians who fell victim to scammers return home, both today (197 people) and on November 6, 2015 (270 people). He also praised the government’s policy of strictly suppressing all types of online crime.

The Prime Minister and the Indian Ambassador also agreed to continue their cooperation in addressing cybercrime and human trafficking, and to continue strengthening their cooperation to prevent anyone from falling victim to human trafficking and cybercrime, for the mutual benefit of both countries and for the security and prosperity of the region as a whole.
