Anutin Orders Reversion to Orange Vests for Pattaya Motorcycle Taxi Drivers

Pattaya:Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed motorcycle taxi drivers in Pattaya to return to their original orange vests, following controversy over a recent switch to blue vests.

According to Thai News Agency, the change in vest color had raised safety concerns. Mr. Yodchai Phuengporn, Chonburi MP from the People's Party, revealed that after a meeting of the House of Representatives, he discussed the issue with the Prime Minister, who expressed surprise and ordered the reversion to orange vests.

Mr. Yodchai mentioned that the cost of the new blue vests was 550 baht each, a detail that shocked the Prime Minister. He assured that a solution would be found. Approximately 5,000 motorcycle taxi vests are currently in use, with many drivers having already switched back to the orange vests they own. The timeline for phasing out the blue vests remains undecided, but the Prime Minister has committed to addressing the issue.

Mr. Yodchai added that the Prime Minister was quite confused upon learning about the vest switch, stating, "I'm very confused. Suddenly, I'm being questioned by the whole country."
