Apple Warns Abhisit Vejjajiva of Pegasus Spyware Targeting iPhones

Bangkok:Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, has disclosed that Apple has issued a warning indicating that iPhones, including his own, are being targeted by spyware from the "Pegasus" family. Initial examinations have not revealed any breaches, and Mr. Abhisit expressed hope that the government is not involved in any rights violations.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Abhisit received the alert from Apple, which highlighted that the spyware threat might be connected to his professional role. The "Pegasus" spyware is reportedly often acquired and utilized by government entities.

After receiving the alert, Mr. Abhisit consulted with individuals who had experienced similar attacks and conducted preliminary checks on his device, which showed no signs of successful hacking or damage. He mentioned that while a deeper investigation is pending, the device was initially put into "Lockdown Mode" to activate its security system before resuming normal operations. He stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance.

When questioned about a possible connection between the attempted hack and the upcoming no-confidence debate against the government, Mr. Abhisit commented that the timing raised questions but emphasized that he is not concerned as most of his communications are public. He indicated plans to conduct a thorough investigation of the device later.

Mr. Abhisit declined assistance from government agencies for the investigation, emphasizing that the government's main responsibility is to ensure public cybersecurity. He expects that government bodies should not engage in illegal activities or infringe on personal rights. He also acknowledged that the opposition party members are cognizant of the risks of becoming targets when performing scrutiny.
