Arkansas Resident Wins $1.8 Billion Powerball Jackpot

Bangkok: A lucky winner in Arkansas has claimed the $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot. A single Powerball ticket sold in Arkansas hit the massive $1.8 billion jackpot on Wednesday night, marking one of the largest lottery wins in U.S. history and a significant stroke of luck occurring just in time for Christmas.

According to Thai News Agency, the Powerball lottery prize pool continued to climb after Monday’s drawing failed to produce a major winner, combined with a last-minute buying spree that pushed the jackpot to a total of $1.817 billion (approximately 61.778 billion baht). The official Powerball website stated on Thursday that this is the largest jackpot of 2025 and the second largest ever in the United States. The winning numbers were 4, 25, 31, 52, 59, and the Powerball number was 19, with odds of winning being only 1 in 292.2 million.

This event marks the second time in Arkansas history that a Powerball jackpot has been won, with the first instance dating back to 2010. Powerball tickets cost $2 each. The fortunate winner has two prize options: a payout over 29 years or a single lump sum of approximately $834.9 million (approximately 28,386 million baht) before taxes. The most recent jackpot win before this one occurred on September 6th, shared by two winners in Missouri and Texas, who split $1.787 billion (approximately 55,522 million baht).

In addition to the grand prize, this drawing also saw nine winners across the country receive secondary prizes worth $1 million each. Historically, the jackpot has only been won on Christmas Eve once, in 2011, and on Christmas Day four times. However, the highest jackpot in the United States remains the $2.04 billion (approximately 63.382 billion baht) prize, which was won in California in 2022. This massive prize will help boost the popularity of large lottery tickets, increasing revenue for the state lottery fund to support education and other government budgets.
