According to Thai News Agency, the case involves a man identified as Mr. Chaiwat, aged 50, who attempted to remove bolts from the landmark suspension bridge in Ang Thong, near Khlong Lam Tha Daeng. This area has previously witnessed numerous incidents of bolt thefts. Recently, police officers from Ang Thong City Police Station successfully tracked down and arrested Mr. Chaiwat. He was then brought to the scene to reenact the crime as part of his confession.
Mr. Chaiwat admitted to stealing nuts from the bridge last year and selling them in Suphan Buri province. However, he was unable to remove the nuts this time as they were welded in place. Authorities have taken the suspect into custody to record his information, and they are preparing to charge him with attempted theft.
Mr. Sarawut Phansangwon, Director of Public Works and Town Planning of Ang Thong Province, revealed that nuts and bolts had been stolen from this area once before. A police report was not filed at that time, and the contractor had already carried out repairs. However, this time, a police report will be filed to prosecute the thieves.
