Bangkok: Atthaphon Saengthong has withdrawn from the Thai national team for the SEA Games after suffering an injury, ahead of the “War Elephants”‘ first match against Timor-Leste tomorrow.
According to Thai News Agency, the Thai national men’s football team for the 2025 SEA Games, led by head coach “Coach Wang” Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul, practiced yesterday at the ThaiBev Football Academy to prepare for the men’s football competition. The under 22 team is set to play their first match in Group A against Timor-Leste.
This training session was aimed at physical recovery and a strategic review, with Anthony Hudson, head coach of the Thai national team, in attendance. However, the team faced a setback as Atthaphon Saengthong, a right-back from Nakhon Pathom United, had to withdraw due to an ankle injury sustained while playing for his club. Consequently, Thawatchai Inprakhon, a left-back from Singha Chiang Rai United, has been called up to join the squad.
Thanakrit Chotimueangpak, the team’s star player, expressed that despite some players not being fully present after a week of training, he has been focusing on improving his fitness and tactics. Thanakrit acknowledged the stress of the SEA Games but remains confident in the team’s preparation. He is determined to perform at his best in his first SEA Games, with the team’s ultimate aim being a gold medal.
The SEA Games Men’s Football Team Program for Group A includes matches on December 3rd, where Thailand will face Timor-Leste at 7:00 PM, and on December 11th, against Cambodia at 7:00 PM, both taking place at Rajamangala National Stadium.
