Bangkok: Attorney Witoon Kaengngan has firmly denied allegations involving his client, Boss Kant, in rumors suggesting his presence in a CCTV footage linked to secret mafia activities.
According to Thai News Agency, Witoon emphasized that the spread of such rumors has caused significant damage to Boss Kant’s family and is potentially a distraction from the ongoing issue of VIP treatment in prison.
On November 24, 2015, Attorney Witoon visited his clients at Bangkok Remand Prison, including those involved in the ICON Group case. Following the visit, Witoon addressed media inquiries regarding allegations that CCTV footage depicted Boss Kant in a compromising situation with a young woman. He clarified that the prison’s strict regulations make such claims implausible, given that inmates are required to remain within their dormitories from the afternoon onward.
Witoon further revealed his communication with Boss Kant’s legal representative and the spouse of another accused individual, asserting that the alleged money transfer slip was not linked to Boss Kant. He refuted any claims of bribery or special treatment, highlighting the Anti-Money Laundering Office’s seizure of funds, leaving Boss Kant with no financial support in prison.
The attorney expressed skepticism about the rumors’ credibility, suggesting they aim to divert attention from reports of preferential treatment afforded to Chinese inmates. He reiterated that Boss Kant and others involved in the ICON Group case do not enjoy such advantages, primarily due to their lack of financial resources.
Addressing visitation rumors, Witoon clarified the prison’s structured visiting schedule, emphasizing that the ICON Group defendants do not benefit from Sunday visits. He intends to discuss potential legal action against the source of the defamatory news.
Attorney Witoon dismissed any connection between the rumors and Boss Kant’s legal case, stressing the separation between prison management and legal proceedings. He expressed confidence in the Department of Special Investigation’s efforts to uncover the truth, potentially leading to legal action should the rumors prove false.
In conclusion, Witoon highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by inmates without financial means, advocating for equal treatment and the possibility of bail for those awaiting trial. He called for systemic prison reforms to ensure fairness and support for all inmates, irrespective of their financial status.
