Bangkok Authorities Intensify Efforts to Address Flooding

Bangkok:Efforts to tackle flooding in the Rom Klao and Nong Chok areas have entered their third day, with the Defense Ministry and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration working urgently to clear accumulated debris.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, known as "Big Dul," has been actively involved in managing the flood situation, urging the completion of garbage clearing in Rom Klao within two days and advocating for the deployment of additional water pumps. Meanwhile, reports indicate that water levels in Nong Chok are starting to recede, with ongoing efforts to restore normalcy for affected Bangkok residents.

Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Defence, and Mr. Thaiwut Khankaew, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, have been on the ground monitoring the flood situation and community recovery. They visited the Rom Klao Housing Community in Lat Krabang District and Flora Ville Village in Nong Chok District, observing progress in waste management and drainage operations. Heavy machinery has been mobilized, and efforts are being made to clear debris within two days with the help of various sectors, including businesses and volunteer networks from Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

Lieutenant General Adul expressed gratitude to all contributors, highlighting the importance of post-flood recovery to allow residents to return to their normal lives. Mr. Thaiwut also acknowledged the support from the government and the Ministry of Defence, which has been crucial in alleviating the impact of the floods.

The delegation inspected water-pushing boats in Khlong Lam Ko Phai and surveyed waterways to evaluate drainage operations. At Flora Ville Village, where over 1,800 households have been affected, they monitored water drainage progress and requested additional hydraulic pumps to expedite the process. Challenges remain in some areas, necessitating further support and adjustments to plans based on local conditions and potential weather changes.

The Minister of Defence emphasized the need for continued focus on both immediate drainage and long-term recovery efforts. He assured that specialized agencies, supported by the Ministry of Defence and armed forces, will remain committed to resolving issues and restoring normalcy for the residents of Bangkok.
