Bangkok Roads Expected to Dry if Rains Cease

Bangkok:Main roads in Bangkok are anticipated to be 90% dry within two days, provided there is no additional heavy rainfall, as floodwaters begin to recede in key areas of the city.

According to Thai News Agency, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt indicated that the situation is stabilizing after a break in rainfall. City authorities are focusing on draining primary canals, which will help speed up the runoff from major roads, residential neighborhoods, and low-lying alleys.

While water levels in central canals like Khlong Saen Saep are decreasing, eastern districts such as Lat Krabang and Sai Mai are being closely monitored due to slow drainage and ongoing runoff from nearby provinces.

In hard-hit areas like the Romklao Housing Community in Lat Krabang, water levels have decreased by about 10 centimeters but remain significantly deep, between 130 to 160 centimeters. Residents are still navigating chest-deep water to access aid distribution points. High-clearance trucks are being used in relief operations to reach these challenging areas and evacuate stranded individuals.

To expedite relief efforts across the city, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is utilizing water-pushing boats and additional pumping units in low-lying regions, while also streamlining food distribution to isolated residents. Officials advise riverside communities outside permanent flood barriers to remain vigilant for seasonal high tides and northern river runoff expected through early October.
