Bee Castle Construction Underway for 2026 Procession in Sakon Nakhon

Sakon Nakhon:Craftsmen at Wat Suwannanilchindaram are diligently constructing beeswax castles in preparation for the 2026 Beehive Castle Procession, a traditional event in Sakon Nakhon Province. The work is part of a continued effort to depict the story of Phra Mahajanaka and pass on this art form to the younger generation.

According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere at Wat Suwannanilchindaram is filled with the meticulous efforts of craftsmen and monks as they prepare for this important cultural tradition. Mr. Panyawat Khamsong, a skilled craftsman, explained that this year's project adheres to traditional Thai architecture, featuring a miniature-style castle adorned with intricate Thai patterns.

A special highlight this year is the historical base area of the castle, designed to present a story from the Jataka tales, specifically the tale of Prince Mahajanaka. This element is intended to convey themes of perseverance and diligence to visitors.

The temple's activities have attracted a variety of young people, including students from Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University and local schools, who come to learn the beeswax castle-making process. Artisans conduct demonstrations and training sessions, covering techniques such as pouring, carving, and pattern application, to ensure the preservation of this cultural heritage.

Despite the challenge of maintaining their status as reigning champions in competitions, the craftsmen are focused on maintaining high standards and attention to detail to produce refined and perfect work.

The Beehive Castle Procession and Longboat Racing Festival for the Royal Trophy are scheduled to take place from October 20-26, 2026, at the Sakon Nakhon Provincial Government Center, King Rama V Monument Plaza.
