Bangkok: The Bhumjaithai Party and the Pheu Thai Party engaged in discussions over policy preparations ahead of presenting their joint statement to Parliament. Monporn Charoensri, Deputy Leader of the Pheu Thai Party, highlighted that their party is concentrating on social issues, while Paophum Rojanasakul, her counterpart, emphasized the importance of aligning policies to ensure coherence with their coalition partner. He noted that they would evaluate which policies from the previous government could be continued.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Monporn Charoensri and Mr. Paophum Rojanasakul visited the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters to finalize policy preparations for the government's policy statement to Parliament. The meeting aimed to address the policy similarities between the Pheu Thai Party and the Bhumjaithai Party and to integrate these into the Prime Minister's draft policy statement. Additionally, discussions covered the roles of the government's parliamentary whips and the framework for collaboration in the House of Representatives.
Mr. Paophum explained that the Pheu Thai Party's policy statement would reflect the commitments made during their campaign, within their scope of responsibility. They planned to identify any overlapping or limiting policies to ensure progress.
In addressing questions about unfinished policies from previous governments led by Mr. Settha Thavisin and Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Mr. Paophum indicated that further discussions were needed to determine which policies could be continued or fulfilled as promised during the election campaign. The meeting served as a formal dialogue, with plans to delve deeper into policy specifics.
When queried about whether Pheu Thai Party's policies would need to be fully adopted or adapted to align with Bhumjaithai Party's policies, Mr. Paophum stressed the necessity of maintaining balance as a coalition partner.
