Bhumjaithai Party MPs Opt for Self-Catering in Parliamentary Sessions

Bangkok: The parliamentary cafeteria was bustling with activity as the Speaker and Bhumjaithai Party MPs lined up to buy food and eat, after the party decided to handle its own food arrangements during parliamentary sessions.

According to Thai News Agency, during the lunch break in the House of Representatives today (March 25th), while considering an urgent motion regarding the energy crisis stemming from the conflict in the Middle East, several MPs from the Bhumjaithai Party gathered in the canteen on the B2 floor of the Parliament building. Among them were: Mr. Somyot Plaiduang (Songkhla MP), Mr. Yosawat Maipaisalsin (Kanchanaburi MP), Mr. Nop Cheewanan (Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya MP), Mr. Phitsanu Phonthi (Pathum Thani MP), Mr. Kriangyot Sudlapa (List MP), Mr. Traithep Ngamkamol (Buriram MP), Ms. Thivalrat Angkinan (Phetchaburi MP), and Mr. Chanon Thaiseth (Kanchanaburi MP).

Some people lined up to buy food before picking up trays and sitting down to eat together in a friendly atmosphere. Government officials, staff, and parliamentary assistants were all eating in the same area.

A Bhumjaithai Party MP stated that he came down to eat in accordance with the party's resolution, which instructed MPs to take care of their own meals during parliamentary sessions.

At 12:20 PM, Mr. Sophon Saram, Speaker of the House of Representatives, came down to have lunch on floor B2. He told the press that he eats there regularly, almost every day since becoming Speaker. Today he had pork stir-fried rice with basil and a fried egg, adding that the food is delicious and once you try it, you'll be hooked.

Regarding the arrangement of dining areas for MPs, Mr. Sophon stated that there will be another meeting to discuss the matter on Monday, March 30th.
