Bangkok: Big Lek, the Army Commander, has firmly denied issuing a ceasefire order amid the recent clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. He stated, “Ask whoever said that,” emphasizing his delegation of authority. “No one ordered it,” he reiterated, dismissing claims of his involvement in the decision.
According to Thai News Agency, the controversy arose following comments from Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, who is an advisor to the Army Commander and a former Second Army Region commander. Lt. Gen. Boonsin had revealed that a ceasefire order was issued on July 24th after six hours of intense clashes. However, Defense Minister Gen. Natthapol Nakphanit also denied giving the initial ceasefire order, clarifying that he was only monitoring the situation and had delegated authority to a group of commanders, led by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Questions about who actually gave the order and whether the rumors would negatively impact the country remain unresolved, as Lt. Gen. Boonsin has been advised to discuss the matter with Army Commander-in-Chief Gen. Pana Klaewplodthuk, who also denied any involvement in issuing the ceasefire order.
