Big Lek Focuses on Completing Term, Not Yet Approached for Cabinet Role

Bangkok: "Big Lek," officially known as General Apirat Kongsompong, has reaffirmed his commitment to completing his current term as chairman and has stated that he has not been approached to join the new cabinet. He emphasized his intention to focus on fulfilling his duties in office and refrained from speculating on his future role beyond his present responsibilities. General Apirat also advised military commanders to consider a broader spectrum of issues, extending beyond strictly military concerns.

According to Thai News Agency, General Natthaphol Nakpanich, the Minister of Defence, shared insights about his ongoing work in the final months leading up to the formation of a new government. He confirmed his dedication to fulfilling his role for the remaining two months and stated that he has not been approached for any new roles as yet. While he opted not to divulge further details, General Natthaphol highlighted the importance of completing his term and assured that all tasks are being systematically managed.

General Natthaphol further emphasized that no outstanding tasks remain unfinished, as all matters are being addressed progressively. He underscored the significance of the Thai armed forces in ensuring national security and urged military commanders to expand their perspectives to include foreign affairs and international politics. He also advised them to integrate social, psychological, and economic considerations into their strategic framework.

In his remarks, General Natthaphol encouraged military commanders to actively contribute their ideas during National Security Council meetings. He acknowledged their capabilities and noted that his broader experience in various governmental roles provided him with insights to offer constructive suggestions. He stressed the importance of maximizing the use of available time rather than seeking extensions.

When questioned about the potential end of his tenure as Minister of Defence, General Natthaphol chose not to define it as a limit. He expressed confidence that he had made the most of the time available to him. Despite being asked about his future in the position, he declined to comment further.
