Bangkok: Entertainment figures and fans participated in the ceremony to cast a bronze statue of the late actor Sorapong Chatree. Yesterday was the birthday of the late actor, a National Artist, and the Somdej Phuttha Chan (To Phromrangsi) Metta Baramee Foundation in Sikhiu District, along with local residents, held the event to honor his legacy. The statue, designed by Mr. Sira Lertphumipanya, was cast at the northern pavilion of the Somdej Phuttha Chan (To Phromrangsi) Foundation’s foundry. The ceremony was presided over by Mom Kamala Yukol na Ayutthaya, and attended by several notable figures, including Duangduen Chithaisong and Phisarut and Phatthakrit Thiemsewet, Sorapong Chatree’s son. Friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry, such as Naiyana Cheewanan and Piyamas Monyakul, were also present.

According to Thai News Agency, the idea for creating the statue originated from Mom Chao Chatrichalerm Yukol, affectionately known as “Than Mui,” who was a significant mentor and benefactor to Sorapong Chatree. Than Mui envisioned establishing a museum dedicated to Sorapong Chatree, which would highlight his film career and social contributions. This vision led to the creation of the bronze statue, which will be a central feature of the Sorapong Chatree Museum within the Somdej Phuttha Chan (To Phromrangsi) Metta Barami Foundation. The museum aims to celebrate Sorapong Chatree’s biography, his impact on film and television, and his contributions to society, cementing his status as a National Artist.
