Bangkok: The Cabinet has approved the addition of five new import-export checkpoints dedicated to the quarantine and inspection of fruit imports from Thailand to China. This initiative aims to broaden the export channels between the two countries.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Airin Phanrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that the Cabinet acknowledged the addition of these checkpoints under a quarantine and inspection agreement applicable to the export and import of fruits via third countries. This agreement follows a recent signing ceremony and will be operational from September 1, 2025.

Currently, China operates ten service points, including Youyiguan, Mohan, Dongqing, and several railway stations such as Pingxiang and Mohan. The new checkpoints, Mengkang and Tamluo, will be situated in Yunnan Province. Meanwhile, Thailand maintains six import and export points, including Chiang Khong and Mukdahan.

The protocol presently specifies Hekou Railway Station as China’s sole import-export point, which remains closed for Thai fruit imports due to ongoing infrastructure enhancements. In response, China has requested Thailand to add three additional points: Thung Chang in Nan Province, Phu Du in Uttaradit Province, and Ban Huak in Phayao Province, to enhance the import-export framework.
