Chiang mai: Buddhists in Chiang Mai recently participated in a large merit-making ceremony known as "Tan Khan Khao," dedicated to honoring the deceased. The event coincided with "Phaya Wan Day," or the Lanna New Year, drawing crowds to major temples throughout the city.
According to Thai News Agency, the traditional ceremony involved various activities by the devotees, including praying, carrying sand into the temples, and planting flags and banners on sand stupas. These actions were performed as part of the ritual to bring good fortune.
