Bangkok: Free travel for seven days on Motorway 7 and Motorway 9 during the New Year period has been approved. The Cabinet has sanctioned the waiver of toll fees for vehicles traveling on Expressway No. 7 and Expressway No. 9 during the New Year holiday period of 2026, starting from 00:01 on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, until 24:00 on Monday, January 5, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Airin Phanrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, announced the Cabinet’s approval of the draft Ministerial Regulation, which exempts toll fees for vehicles using these expressways. This exemption applies specifically to Expressway No. 7, covering the Bangkok-Ban Chang section and the Bangkok-Pattaya route, as well as Expressway No. 9, which includes the Bangkok Outer Ring Road, also known as Kanchanaphisek Road.
The initiative aims to address traffic congestion, facilitate public travel during the New Year festival, improve traffic flow, and help reduce the country’s energy consumption. While the toll fee exemption is expected to result in a loss of approximately 185.35 million baht for the toll fee revolving fund, it is anticipated to generate economic benefits of around 280.34 million baht. Additionally, the measure is expected to stimulate an economic circulation of approximately 256 million baht through tourism and public spending.
